Starting from Scratch: My Journey into Digital Marketing

Starting from Scratch: My Journey into Digital Marketing

If someone had told me two years ago that I’d be learning digital marketing in Calicut and chasing a dream of working online, I probably would have laughed it off. But life has its own surprises—and for me, the biggest surprise was finding purpose through digital marketing. It completely changed how I view the internet, career possibilities, and even my own strengths.

From Wayanad to Calicut: A New Chapter

I grew up in Wayanad, a peaceful land surrounded by greenery. It’s a beautiful place to live, but it doesn’t offer many modern career paths, especially in creative and tech-focused fields. I’ve always enjoyed creative work—whether it was photography, shooting videos, or editing just for fun. But for a long time, I didn’t realize those passions could become a profession.

After finishing school, I found myself uncertain. I didn’t have financial stability, and I knew I needed a future path that was both practical and full of growth. That’s when I came across CDA Academy in Calicut. After doing some research, something inside me said, “Why not take a chance?” I trusted that instinct—and it turned out to be the best decision I could’ve made.

Discovering Digital Marketing

When I first stepped into the world of digital marketing, I was curious, nervous, and honestly—overwhelmed. Terms like SEO, PPC, and CTR sounded like a foreign language. But with time, dedication, and great mentorship from the trainers at CDA, everything started falling into place.

I realized that digital marketing isn’t just about posting content or paying for ads—it’s about solving real problems. Whether it’s helping a brand reach more people or shaping someone’s online presence, it’s all about creating value through strategy and creativity.

The best part? At CDA, we’re not limited to theory. We get hands-on training using real tools like Google Analytics, Canva, and Semrush, and we work on live projects. That kind of exposure built my confidence and gave me the courage to start freelance work on the side.

Facing the Struggles

My journey wasn’t easy. I had moments filled with self-doubt, questions like “Am I cut out for this?” or “Can I really make a living from this?” kept playing in my head.

Staying consistent was another challenge. Digital marketing is not something you learn once and forget. The platforms change, the algorithms update, and you have to keep learning. But I realized that if I kept showing up every day—learning one new thing, testing one new idea—that would lead to growth. And it did.

Blending Passion with Purpose

What makes digital marketing even more special for me is how well it fits with my other creative passions—photography, videography, and editing. I began creating content not just for learning, but to build something of my own. Every project, every reel, every post has helped me grow my identity as a creator.

Now, I’m building my portfolio, working with small clients, and preparing to turn my freelance services into a full-time venture. My bigger goal is not just to earn—I want to empower local businesses, educate others like me, and eventually launch my own creative brand.

Lessons from the Journey

Here are a few powerful lessons I’ve learned so far:

Start before you feel ready – waiting for the perfect moment only delays                       your progress.

Learn by doing – real skills come through action, not just watching videos.

Be patient – good results take time, especially when it comes to SEO.

Stay curious – follow updates, explore trends, and always be a student.

Believe in yourself – your background doesn’t limit you—your mindset and                 actions define your future.

Looking Forward

Today, I’m still learning. But I’m also creating, building, and dreaming. Digital marketing has shown me that with the right mindset and consistent effort, anyone can build a meaningful career—even from scratch.

If you’re thinking of entering this field, I’d say: Just begin. Keep showing up. You don’t need a perfect setup or a huge budget—just passion, patience, and the courage to keep going.

Thanks for reading my story. If you’d like to connect or have any questions, feel free to reach out—I’d love to support you in any way I can.
